I’m Ruthie (she/her/hers) one of the founders of Midwood Counseling. As a clinician, I am committed to fostering a therapeutic environment in which you feel comfortable telling and rewriting your story. I received my B.A. in Literary Studies with a minor in Psychology and a concentration in Human Development from Roanoke College. As I continued with my education, I found my major and minor building upon one another, and I became interested in how literature and storytelling can work as a catalyst for working through trauma. I earned my M.A in Counseling with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health from University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and I currently work as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist Associate. I strongly believe in supporting your agency through helping you own and process your stories, histories, and challenges. It is an honor to walk with you as you navigate challenges and work toward a more fulfilling future. I look forward to having the opportunity to work with you!
In my current practice I treat individuals and couples utilizing an integrated approach primarily using evidenced-based techniques from DBT, CBT, narrative therapy, and person-centered therapy. I specialize in anxiety, substance use disorders, relationship issues, grief, and life transitions. I am a level 1 trained Gottman couples therapist and integrate this approach when working with couples.
My rate for individual sessions is $130 and my rate for couples or family sessions is $150. Please reach out to me directly at ruthies@midwoodcounseling.com to schedule a consultation.
